blámi book
This bookwork is a part of the blámi or blueness series by Bryndís Björnsdóttir aka Dísa. In the book a video lecture from the series is presented showing video stills of morphing and glitching electron microscope imagery of a blue clay. The blueness of the clay is linked to its source of origin, a former geothermal site and microbial life found there. The glitching of the clay images refer to Legacy Russels notion that it is with glitch we are able to deny binary codes and modify our own world within the digital realm. Glitch as a term was first used by astronomers in 60s when describing technical difficulties as mentioned by Legacy in the book Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto (2020). Extremophiles in geothermal areas provide astrobiological grounds for reflecting on the origins of life on this planets and others. It is from these interconnective threads that a revised notion of blueness is presented and unraveled in the readings of the glitchy electron microscope images.
