Gerviledur - Kunstleder - Fake leather - installation
Presenting extractive industries of Iceland, post/neo/colonial, where the main motif is a black plastic stick used to strengthen boxes in Icelandic fish factories before shipped off. The stick is presented as another reading, hieroglyph, into land, a mitochondrion of dark ecology symbiosis. Plastic is the one of the material now being created out of excess sulphur from tar oil mining, the former colonial resource of Iceland. The title, Fake leather, refers to the plasticised outer layer of living beings.

show capitaloscene trajectories forming globally around raw material resource extraction and processing that also manifest geopolitical shifts locally tied to Iceland. The exhibition is part of an artistic research process of both artists: Guðnadóttir working with Silicon and Björnsdóttir with Sulphur. The artists come together as their research projects touch around the locus of Theistareykir geothermal area in North-Iceland where the activities around the two elements display different neo-colonial relations and effects of global extractivism.''
